Norwegian biathlete Lægreid was suspended from the mass start at the World Cup in Switzerland due to a shot during dryland training.

Norwegian biathlete Sturlu Legreida was not allowed to participate in the mass start of the third stage of the World Cup in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, due to a violation of safety regulations, according to the official website of the International Biathlon Union (IBU ).

The decision was made in response to an incident during indoor dry-fire training when Lægreid fired a shot. No one was injured as a result of the incident.

“I deeply regret this incident and apologize to the entire biathlon family, my teammates and the hotel owner for what happened. “This is a hard reminder for me and for all biathletes of the importance of safety rules,” Lægreid said.

Biathlon’s independent monitoring body for governance, transparency and anti-doping (BIU) has been informed and will work with Swiss authorities investigating the matter to gather further information and decide whether further action will be taken .

The Lenzerheide stage will end on Sunday with racing from the general start.
