The leader of the Ukrainian national team is dissatisfied with his results in the last race of 2023 and complains about muscle fatigue
Leader of the Ukrainian biathlon team Dmitry Pidruchny commented on his performance in the mass start and in general at the third stage World Cup 2023/24 in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
“The race went so-so… The third day was already hard, even in a row, I didn’t have enough strength today, I felt muscle fatigue. Plus, three more misses prevented me from fighting for higher places. In short, it’s a tough race.”
“Perhaps, there was already muscle fatigue – my back quickly began to get tired from the second or third lap, and it was very difficult to fight along the track with stronger opponents. My back, legs, and arms have already stopped working the way I would like.”
“Oddly enough, it was also hard to work on the descent, because my back hurt and it was just hard to endure. And this affected shooting standing, because the back was tense and it was difficult to shoot.”
“How do I evaluate the stage? More positive than negative – we managed to qualify for the mass start. I’m not very happy with the shooting, because we could have fought for higher places. Today is the mass start and on the third day it didn’t work out for me at all.”
“I like the terrain of the track – it’s quite difficult, but it’s quite interesting. But the hardest thing is the altitude, it affects, and this fatigue on the third day is because of this, plus the lack of oxygen, and the muscles simply cannot cope with this work.”
“Now we are all returning home to the championship in Syanki. I’ll have a little rest, and from home I’ll go to the Christmas race.”
Let us remind you that in the men’s mass start race, Pidruchny became the only representative of Ukraine and showed the 26th result. He demonstrated a good pace in the first half of the distance, but did not avoid penalty loops during the shooting. In the overall World Cup standings, Dmitry takes 34th place.
Pidruchny spent a long time recovering from a broken arm. Due to injury, Dmitry missed the 2023 Summer World Cup and was not included in the Ukrainian national team’s squad for the first stage of the World Cup in Östersund. The start of the season for Pidruchny came in the sprint race in Hochfilzen, Austria.
Today, December 17, the third stage of the World Cup in Lenzerheide ended. The fourth stage of the World Cup will be held in Oberhof, Germany, from January 4 to 7, 2024.
From December 20 to 24, the Ukrainian Biathlon Championship will be held in Syanki (Yavoriv), Lviv region.
On December 28, Dmitry, together with Yulia Jima, will represent Ukraine at the traditional Christmas race, which will take place in Hanselkirchen, Germany.
