Medalist at the World Speed Skating Championships Daria Kachanova named his main start this season.
At the beginning of December, Kachanova became the absolute winner of the Russian Cup stage in Chelyabinsk, which brought her medals in the all-around sprint competition. She updated the Ural Lightning rink record for a distance of 1000 meters and the sum of four distances.
— For me personally, the main start of the season is the upcoming Russian Championship of single distances in Irkutsk, which will take place from December 24 to 27. A number of national team athletes, including myself, arrived in this city two and a half weeks before departure. We prepare the competitions on site.
— What about the national championship in the classic and sprint all-around, which will take place in Kemerovo at the end of January? Don’t you think that winning the all-around is more prestigious?
— This was once the case, but today, it seems to me, individual distances are valued even more. Most likely because it is on them that the medals at the Olympic Games are at stake. There is no general competition in the Olympic program. Of course, the start of Kemerovo is also important, as is the Spartakiad that followed.
— In the Chelyabinsk ice palace “Lightning of the Urals”, you won all four distances. Have you ever achieved an absolute result in major competitions?
— In 2021, she won the Russian Championship in Irkutsk. At the same time, she happened to take second place in the “five hundred”, but won the “thousand” and became first in total points.
— How important was a confident victory at the Russian Cup for you?
“It made me happy, first of all, because I missed last season due to injury. In addition, they managed to set two records for the Chelyabinsk ice rink – in the all-around sprint and in the 1000 meters – 1:15.83.
It is impossible to break national records in Russian conditions: they were all set on high mountain rinks. But you need to set goals. “I will try to break my own rink records,” Kachanova said according to the press service of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
The Russian Speed Skating Championships over selected distances will take place from December 24 to 27 at the Baikal Ice Palace in Irkutsk.
