Pidruchny: I’m not entirely satisfied with how my performances turned out at two stages of the World Cup

The leading Ukrainian biathlete takes 34th place in the overall World Cup standings

Leader of the Ukrainian biathlon team Dmitry Pidruchny commented on the results of the year and his start in season 2023/24.

“I’m not completely satisfied with how my performances turned out at two stages of the World Cup. Not everything went well with the shooting. There are problems because there was almost no clean shooting. This is what prevented us from competing for better results. In general, physically I’m happy, because I expected the worst after such an injury and missing about two months of training. I think I’m in relatively good shape at the moment and physically happier.”

“The results are pretty good, with the exception of the sprint in Hochfilzen, where I was 52nd. But the next day the pursuit race went very well. In other races, I was in close to 20th place, so I think this is still a normal, objective result, given the problems I had with my health.”

Plans for the Christmas race? Show good results there and have fun. This is more of a show race, and it’s nice that Ukraine is invited every year, and we can be represented there. First of all, it’s a show. But also at this race you need to show your level and fight for high places. Represent Ukraine as best as possible.”

Let us remind you that Pidruchny spent a long time recovering from a broken arm. Due to injury, Dmitry missed the 2023 Summer World Cup and was not included in the Ukrainian national team’s squad for the first stage of the World Cup in Östersund. The start of the season for Pidruchny came in the sprint race in Hochfilzen, Austria.

At both World Cup events where he took part – in Hochfilzen and Lenzerheide – Pidruchny finished in the bottom of the top 20 in the pursuit race. In Lenzerheide, in the men’s mass start race, he became the only representative of Ukraine and showed the 26th result. In the overall World Cup standings, Pidruchny takes 34th place.

On December 28, Dmitry, together with Yulia Jima, will represent Ukraine at the traditional Christmas race, which will take place in Hanselkirchen, Germany.
