Speed skater Kachanova about the 500m record in the Chechen Republic: “I didn’t expect a skating record from me”

Medalist at the World Speed Skating Championships Daria Kachanova said that she did not expect to set a record for skating at a distance of 500 m at the Russian Championships at individual distances in Irkutsk.

Kachanova won this distance with a score of 37.82 seconds and updated the rink record.

— Here, from the beginning, the arena and the ice are very well prepared for major competitions, the attitude is to take care of the athletes, so that there is a comfortable temperature and ice. We are welcomed with great hospitality. Honestly, I didn’t think I would have a skating record, I wasn’t in the mood, but I wanted to race for the best result of the season and win, these are the usual goals of every race. Now I am very happy with the result and the way the race went, although of course there is always something to improve, but overall I think we are going in the right direction.

— How was 2023 for you?

— It was a good year except that we are still not on the international scene. I healed my injury, returned to competitions, started training in another team with another coach – Evgeniy Lalenkov. I think that in terms of sports performance we are showing good results,” Kachanova told .
