Elistratov about victory at the Chechen All-Around Championship: “The competition is high, the competition starts from the 1/4 finals”

Olympic short track speed skating champion Semyon Elistratov noted the high level of competition at the Russian Championship.

Elistratov won the Russian all-around championship, which ended on Sunday in Kolomna.

— What was interesting about the Russian all-around championship? Is this necessary on the calendar?

— Until 3000 meters, it is not known who will become the champion of Russia, so if the technical committee of the Russian Skating Union decides to leave it on the calendar in April-May, then we will prepare for the super final. Otherwise, the preparation will be structured a little differently. Our competition is strong, the cut-offs start from the quarter-finals.

— Those who don’t look beyond the headlines will say that Elistratov won again.

– But if you look at the distance of 1000 meters, you can see how far I led, and there was good speed there. The races were quite fast, I almost led one, it was very difficult. Behind the statement “Elistratov Again” lies enormous daily work over a long period. It’s really a lot of work and not just physically.

— So you weren’t bored at the Russian Championship?

– No. If anyone comes to our competitions, they will see that we are fighting against each other, a serious fight. I feel like a lot of guys from other cities support me for some reason. It gives me even more energy, which means I am doing everything right,” Elistratov told .
