President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Guliaev explained on why this season it was decided to hold the national short track all-around championship, despite the fact that this type of program has already lost its relevance in the world.
On December 23 and 24, the Russian All-Around Championships took place in Kolomna.
– This is a measurement for exactly one season. We understand that this year, just like last season, our leading athletes will unfortunately not be able to participate in international competitions. Therefore, we could afford exactly this approach once again,” Gulyaev said on the air of the program “Everyone for the match!”
The coach of the Russian national short track speed skating team, Andrei Maksimov, is convinced that it is necessary to maintain the all-around events in the competition program.
— I think it is a mistake that this type of competition (like the all-around competition) does not take place. The athletes must all run.
If we had access to international competitions, I think that at the moment, at the European Championships in the individual race, we would be from first to third place,” Maksimov noted.
