The chief judge of the Russian Speed Skating Championship, Alexander Kibalko, said that the timing gives the right final result at the Baikal Ice Palace arena in Irkutsk.
The question of the specifics of the timing in the arena, where the Russian championship at certain distances takes place, has already been raised by the head coach of the Russian national team, Dmitry Dorofeev.
— The timing situation has not changed since the first year we started organizing races here, there are some peculiarities. We’re talking about the difference in results between what the transponders record and the photo finish. It is possible that iron or other structural aspects of the rollers could affect the transponder system in unpredictable ways; we cannot change or influence this situation. We contacted suppliers, foreign colleagues and even the manufacturer itself about this. The situation is exactly the same in Kemerovo and recently in Chelyabinsk. As chief judge, I expressed this in a meeting with team representatives – the timestamps from the transponder system (acceleration, each lap and at the finish – approx.) are used for display on the informational video screens and video broadcasts, and these results are preliminary, which complies with the rules. But the final and correct result is determined from the photo finish cameras, and it is official.
Well, to state a fact: all the timing systems for speed skating installed on all our rinks are foreign made, and we can and probably should talk about import substitution, but are we going to follow what has been produced and refined for decades?, Kibalko told .
