“The Russian Championship is of a lower level, there will be big prize money at the Spartakiad” – speed skater Bazyuk

Russian speed skating champion Nikita Bazyuk admitted on that he was looking forward to the Spartakiad of the Strongest, which this season surpasses the national championship in importance.

Bazyuk won in the team sprint on the final day of the Russian Championship in Irkutsk. Previously, he finished second at the distances of 500 and 1000 m, where he lost only to world champion Ruslan Murashov.

— Last year I only had bronze, now I have silver in the 500 and 1000 m with the best results. We organized a large training camp for this championship, trained with the leaders: Pavel Kulizhnikov, Ruslan Murashov, Viktor Mushtakov, Artem Arefiev. The preparation was very serious, but I think I could have shown even better results.

I’m happier with the 500m – there’s a lot of progress there; in the 1000m, I couldn’t finish the second lap a bit. I wanted to run under 1 minute 10 seconds, but it didn’t work out.

— You fled to Kemerovo and Irkutsk. Where do you prefer ice cream?

— In Irkutsk, and the atmosphere here is better. Irkutsk received me well. This year the ice cream was ribbed, last year it was better, but I still liked it.

—Are you already thinking about the Spartakiad? Moreover, she is at home for you (Bazyuk plays for the Chelyabinsk region).

— The Spartakiad is important. The Russian championship is now at a lower level than the Spartakiad. At the Spartakiad, prize money is important, but at this Russian championship, unfortunately, there was no prize money. I wish there was some sort of prize money.

— Have you managed to get at least some sort of international start in your career?

— We went to Harbin on the Silk Road. Athletes from Kazakhstan, China and the Chelyabinsk region performed there. There I won the 1000m and won in the team sprint. It was for juniors.

— Is internal competition still enough to compensate for the lack of international departures?

– Enough for now. There are no international competitions, so no one can miss Russian competitions. So all the strongest run: world record holder, world champion, World Cup winner. You follow the guys and the level increases,” Bazyuk told .

The Winter Spartakiad of the Strongest will be held in Russia from February 9 to 18, 2024.
