The head coach of the men’s national team of Ukraine spoke about the difficult period in his coaching career.
Juraj Sanitra explained why he decided to stay to work in Ukraine after the start of the war. In an interview with IBU, the Slovak educator spoke about a difficult period in his career after the start of a full -scale invasion of Russian troops in our country.
According to the head coach of the men’s team, after the events in February, he thought for a long time whether it was worth it to continue working with the Ukrainian team.
“When everyone went home on February 21 after the Olympics, no one thought that we might not go to the final stages of the World Cup. Then we planned how we would work on the next Olympic cycle. But everything changed in February 24, when the aggression began Russia vs Ukraine.
In those days there was a variety of information and telephone conversations. I am very worried about all the athletes and coaches, as well as the fans, of which there are so many in Ukraine. I helped as much as I could. For five weeks the family of one of my athletes lived with me. It was a very difficult time, and I thought for a long time whether to continue working with the team. I talked to my relatives and I realized that I would never leave my athletes and Ukrainian biathlon when they needed help.
We are constantly interacting and thinking together how to work more. I know that almost all the men were drafted into the army after Beijing, ”Sanitra said.
