Italian, triple Olympic medalist Dorothée Wierer will not participate in the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof, according to the official website of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI).
Previously, Wierer, 33, did not participate in two races during the third stage of the World Cup, which took place in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. This season, the two-time Big Crystal Globe winner’s best result was 14th place in the pursuit race in Östersund.
“Dorothea has finally recovered from the flu, which greatly complicated her performance in the first part of the season, and, in agreement with the technical staff, decided to skip the Oberhof stage in order to intensify her training and “advance to the next stages in his usual competitive state,” the message reads.
Earlier, Wierer said she would decide to retire midway through the season.
The World Cup stage in Oberhof will take place from January 4 to 7.
