Former biathlete Suchilov: “When the results deteriorated, I felt a different attitude towards me from the coaches”

Double winner of the Universiade in biathlon Semyon Suchilov told that coaches changed their attitude towards him when his results started to decline.

Suchilov ended his career in May. In April, the head coach of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug team, Evgeny Redkin, told that the 31-year-old biathlete had not completed his tasks and his thoughts and actions did not did not coincide with those of the team.

— Feelings were mixed. It made me smile more than it bothered me. First, when the results began to decline, I immediately noticed a different attitude towards myself. Secondly, after the Russian Championship there was talk of my retirement and the coaches knew that I was finishing. But none of them asked or called. I have no hard feelings about this. Someone thinks that I should have come and said this, but Evgeniy Leonidovich did not communicate with me, he only gave this interview. Maybe he did it out of emotion.

—Did you speak later?

– No.

— Did any of the Khanty-Mansiysk coaches thank you for your work?

— Valery Pavlovich Zakharov, who did a lot in my career, spoke to me. We also spoke with Pyotr Nikolaevich Dubasov, he is my coach from Nizhnevartovsk. But unfortunately not with the national team coaches.

– It does not hurt ? After all, for a long time you were the best in the team and brought benefits to it.

— An athlete is a bargaining chip. When you race at a high level, everyone does everything for you. But when the situation gets a little worse, everyone starts to react differently – I noticed it about myself. I’m not denying I did something wrong – they know better. I absolutely don’t blame anyone, and if someone is angry with me, if I offended someone, then I apologize. Naturally, I didn’t want to hurt anyone. “I am a very nice person,” Suchilov told .

At the end of last season, Suchilov took 29th place in the Russian Biathlon Union rankings.
