Czech biathlete Therese Yandova suffering from diabetes, announced his retirement at the age of 22.
In August 2022, the athlete was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
“I have decided to end my wonderful biathlon career. The main reason is my health, which deteriorated last summer. During training this year, I felt something was wrong. Performance declined with each workout and there was no longer any need to talk about racing. Diabetes no longer allowed me to practice elite sports. I think the decision to end my career was the right one. I haven’t liked sports for a long time.
I have been doing biathlon since I was 13 years old and during this time I have accumulated many wonderful memories, met many wonderful people and achieved good results. I would like to thank everyone who was by my side and who helped me when needed, as well as all my friends with whom I never got bored during races and training. “I will remember this stage for the rest of my life,” Yandova wrote on a social network.
Last season, Yandova took 69th place overall in the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Cup.
