The biathlete has problems with her knees and needs surgery
Ukrainian biathlete Elena Bilosyuk admitted that, in all likelihood, she would be forced to miss the entire international season 2023/24. She is experiencing problems with her knees and most likely will not be able to avoid surgery.
“I found out that, on the doctor’s recommendation, I need surgery. I still don’t think I’m ready for this. Our winter is short, I’ve already missed half the season. While I’m in rehabilitation, there’s little chance that I’ll be seen [на каких-либо соревнованиях]. Injury? Both knees.”
“Of course, I will try to undergo rehabilitation as soon as possible in order to at least compete at the Ukrainian Winter Championship. But I don’t think we’re talking about international competitions.”
Let us remind you that in December Bilosyuk was unable to start the sprint race at the third stage of the IBU Cup in Shushen. According to her, on the day of the start she experienced problems with her knee joints.
For Elena, this start was supposed to be the first of the season. Previously, the 36-year-old athlete was not included in the Ukrainian national team’s application for the first stages of the 2023/24 World Cup.
Before this, the head coach of the women’s team, Nikolai Zots, announced a “vector for rejuvenating the team,” because of which Bilosyuk was not included in the main roster of the Ukrainian national team for the summer Biathlon World Championships in Brezno-Osrbly, Slovakia.
Bilosyuk’s last international start was dated March 18. Then, at the World Cup in Holmenkollen, Elena took 57th place in the sprint.
