Five-time Olympic champion Martin Fourcade criticized the International Biathlon Union (IBU) for choosing Oberhof, Germany, to host the competition amid unsuitable weather conditions.
On Wednesday, the IBU announced the postponement of the men’s World Cup sprint in Oberhof due to hot weather, rain and strong winds. Instead of January 4, the race will take place on January 5.
— How many years does it take the IBU to spread artificial snow (made in a giant refrigerator) on wet ground in order to fulfill its environmental obligations? Perhaps it is time to choose a place adapted to our times,” the Frenchman wrote on a social network.
A total of six races are planned at Oberhof: two sprints, two pursuits and two relays.
The fourth stage of the Biathlon World Cup will take place from January 5 to 7.
