Double Olympic champion in biathlon Dmitry Vasiliev believes that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and European states will ask Russia to participate in the Olympic Games and world championships.
At the end of February, the IOC’s executive committee recommended that federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to compete due to the situation in Ukraine. IOC member, former World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) boss Craig Reedy said in July that the Russians’ performance at the 2024 Olympics in Paris is unlikely.
Are our chances slim? Very probably. However, another thing is also possible: when all of Europe starts to freeze and the citizens of the European states are no longer happy with this whole situation, they will simply force their governments to negotiate with Russia. So this situation is also quite viable, the scenario is absolutely realistic. And in this case, they themselves will ask us to participate in the Olympics and world championships. It is enough not to freeze anymore, and so that the population of these countries does not rebel against their “rulers”, Vasilyev told .
The 2024 Olympics will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
