Executive Director of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Alexander Pak told that the stage of the Russian Championship in Tchaikovsky will not be canceled in advance, all decisions will be made on the spot.
The first stage of the Russian Championship will take place in Tchaikovsky, Perm Territory, from January 11 to 14. According to weather forecasts, the temperature during the competition days will drop to -23 degrees Celsius. In December, the Russian Cup stage in Tyumen was canceled due to frost; the decision was made on the day of the first race, when all the athletes were already in place.
— Is it realistic to make a decision on the championship in Tchaikovsky before going there? According to the weather forecast, it will be very cold there.
— First, according to the regulations, the day before departure, the jury can change the time of the competition. The competition itself is canceled on the day of departure. Secondly, the weather forecast is now very variable and we hope to be able to organize at least one race. We could have done it in Tyumen: the girls from Shachilov’s group ran the sprint. We certainly won’t make any decisions now, we will go to Tchaikovsky. Well, talking about changing locations is funny. We have already said 100 times that changing locations is not easy at all. It’s difficult to accept 400 people like that: logistics, hotel, agreement from the regional manager, etc. In addition, the teams have professional travel. It is also important to understand that it is a Russian championship and that it is financed by the Ministry of Sports. It is impossible to change. It’s cold everywhere now.
— Have I understood correctly that the decision concerning the competitions will be taken only on site?
– Yes, everyone is definitely going. Everyone bought tickets. Who will go where? People have already booked all their business trips. Any cancellation will only be made the day before. By and large, all Belarusians will go. If we take Europe, then the story is the opposite: they have global warming, we have global cooling,” Pak told .
Previously, the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) canceled the Alfa-Bank Russian Ski Cup stage in Chusovoy due to cold temperatures of up to -37 degrees Celsius. The competition was scheduled to take place from December 9 to 12. The decision was made before the trip to Chusovoy.
