Anton Smolsky – about Raubichi’s sprint victory: “I have run this route many times, more than 1000”

Belarusian biathlete Anton Smolski told that he had extra motivation to win the home sprint at the third stage of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup in Raubichi.

On Friday, Smolsky won the 10-kilometer sprint race at the third stage of the Commonwealth Cup in Belarusian Raubichi. The athlete showed a result of 23 minutes 58.4 seconds without a miss on two shooting ranges. Russian Alexander Kornev finished second (no misses, lag – 24.1 seconds), the leading trio was completed by another representative of Russia Alexander Loginov (no misses, +51.3 seconds). Eduard Latypov finished fifth, making two errors and losing 59.1 seconds to the leader.

— The task was maximum, because it’s a good start, here you have to win and show results. I prepared for this departure both mentally and physically. I am very happy that everything went well. Very good mood. These days I spend my free time with my family, it gives me inspiration and motivation.

—Was it exciting that Latypov beat you here last season?

— I’m going to say it philosophically: any failed start always brings benefits in the future. I tried to make the most of each failure, so that I could then turn it into my superiority.

— What can you say about today’s race?

— The state allowed us to fight, after all, it was our home track. As I headed to the finish line, they told me that Kornev had gained me by a second. This part was quite quick and I said to myself: “If he goes even faster, he will win even more.” » I lit even harder, working until the very last few meters.

— Is there any advantage to this being your home track? You’ve probably done it 1000 times.

— I have walked the route several times, more than 1000 times. It’s not even about the track, but about comfortable temperature. It’s 9 to 10 degrees of frost, but the body functions as it should, the muscles are not constrained, the head is cool. In severe frosts, your thoughts get mixed up, you think about how not to freeze and how to warm up within yourself. But today, I repeat, everything was comfortable.

Yesterday was a pretty tough day in terms of shooting indicators. Today the wind was contrary. I was afraid that if the correction went wrong during the race, it would be bad. I won’t say it was easy to shoot. Every shot had to be controlled.

— Will it be comfortable during the chase with such a reserve?

“We will do everything in our power, give everything from a distance and show composure at the turn,” Smolsky said on .

Later on Friday there will be a women’s sprint race, starting at 1:30 p.m. (Moscow time). Watch the live broadcast on the channel, as well as on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
