Also, the leader of the Ukrainian team criticized the preparation of the track in Oberhof
Ukrainian biathlete Dmitry Pidruchny summed up the results of the sprint race at the stage World Cup V Oberhof. The athlete is not satisfied with his shooting, and also noted problems with the preparation of the course.
“The track is really not at all World Cup level and it’s sad that the conditions are the same year after year, but this year it’s just terrible. The track is very dirty, there are a lot of stones, and it also breaks down quickly during the race. Of course, you don’t get much pleasure from racing on it, but there’s nowhere to go, you have to compete, and everything is under the same conditions. I wish the track was in better condition.”
“After the break, I feel, in principle, normal, I can compete and run. There are no special comments. I would say that today I was not too fast in the distance. I don’t know what this is connected with, perhaps because of the break, I need a little competitive practice again.”
“The shooting was just terrible today. Even in this weather, three misses is too many. I tried to shoot carefully, but the weather conditions were quite difficult, everyone had misses, but there were also zeros, and it was possible to shoot to zero. Unfortunately, I couldn’t. I want to say that I generally have problems with shooting now, I think this is due to a lot of missed training during the injury. I was still somehow able to do physical work, but without one hand I started shooting normally somewhere in mid-November. Analyzing all this with the coach, we believe that it is the lack of this work that is now affecting my shooting.”
“For several years now, athletes have been complaining about the preparations for the stage in Oberhof. And, perhaps, it is necessary to transfer this stage at this particular time to another place, with more favorable conditions, where the weather is better and there is enough snow. But, as we see, they don’t do this, because this stage takes place during the New Year holidays, I think it is very profitable in terms of fans and advertising. That’s why the Germans probably don’t want to give it away, but, of course, I would like to compete in better conditions.”
Pidruchny made three penalties and took 34th place in the sprint. The winner of the race was the German Benedikt Doll.
Tomorrow, January 6, the pursuit races will take place in Oberhof. Classic relay races will take place on January 7.
