Shevchenko: “I am no longer just a former skier, but a full-fledged biathlete”

Biathlete Natalia Shevchenko told what qualities she managed to improve this season.

Shevchenko won the pursuit race at the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup stage in Raubichi (Belarus) on Saturday. Last season, she won gold three times at the Russian Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, and in September, at the Russian Summer Championships, the former skier became the first in the relay as part of the team the Sverdlovsk region.

— The season has started well. I don’t think there’s anything I can’t do very well. Quite the contrary. The quality of the shooting and its speed have improved. I started to spend less time on the special stages, I felt that I was capable of regularly reaching the top 6. There were some not very successful races, during which there were failures. But there will be about three, no more. Yes. Today, I am no longer just a lucky former skier, as we might have thought a year ago, but a full-fledged biathlete. There is simply not much experience yet,” Shevchenko is quoted as saying by RT.

Shevchenko, who previously competed in cross-country skiing under the name Mekryukov, switched sports in the summer of 2022.
