“Common sense’s hopes of victory were not destined to come true. We don’t see the point in suing” – Svishchev on extending the suspension of Russian curlers

President of the Russian Curling Federation (RFC) Dmitry Svishchev told that the Russian side will not sue the World Curling Federation (WCF) over the extension of the suspension of Russian athletes.

On Wednesday, the WCF Council extended the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions under the auspices of the organization until the end of the 2023/24 season. It should be noted that the WCF reserves the right to reconsider the decision if necessary.

“Unfortunately, our expectations were justified, but our common sense hopes for victory were not destined to come true. The International Curling Federation made this decision because the IOC recommends that team sports not be allowed. Curling is a team sport, so our colleagues in the international federation made this decision, even though we have good relations. We are not excluded from the commission, our representatives are included in the international federation, but this is the bitter reality, unsporting and unfair. We do not see the point in suing, we are trying to convince our senior comrades through dialogue that Russian athletes should participate in international competitions, ”Svishchev told .

In March 2022, against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, the WCF announced the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions. Subsequently, he extended the sanctions twice.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended in March 2023 that Russian and Belarusian athletes be allowed to participate in international competitions as neutral athletes and only those who have not publicly expressed support for the CWO and are not associated with the armed forces or national security agencies. . At the same time, Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in international team sports competitions.
