The coach is pleased with the result in Ruhpolding, but is already thinking about the team composition for the upcoming European Championships and World Cups
Senior coach Ukrainian women’s biathlon team Nikolay Zots commented on the successful performance of his players in the relay race at the fifth stage World Cup 2023/24 in German Ruhpolding.
“Nothing special has happened – we are moving little by little towards creating a women’s team. As I said, somewhere it will be better, somewhere it will be worse. But the main thing is that a women’s team is slowly being created, and this is, above all, pleasing. Today, I’ll be honest, this is probably a little overpriced for us. But this is biathlon – there are enough teams that deserve this place.”
“In Ruhpolding, compared to Oberhof, it’s like a resort. There is almost no wind here. What comes first here is not only accuracy, but also speed of fire, because everyone is trying. We must also try in circles so as not to fall away. It has its own specifics, but it’s comfortable.”
“Currently there are five girls at the IBU Cup and seven at the World Cup. From these twelve, I need to choose seven athletes for the European Championships. And then from those seven there are six who will go to the World Championships. I want this to be determined after Antholz.”
“This is my first priority now. And this sprint in Ruhpolding is also an indicator. There was a sprint at the IBU Cup in Ridnow – Anya Krivonos showed herself well there. We will also watch the sprint in Ruhpolding.”
Today, following the results of the women’s relay in Ruhpolding, Ukraine took fifth place, showing its best result since December 2021. Last week in Oberhof, Ukraine finished eighth, and then Zots called this result “cool.”
The women’s sprint race will take place in Ruhpolding on Friday 12 January. The stage for Zots’ team will end with the Sunday pursuit race.
The sixth stage of the World Cup will take place on January 18-21 in Antholz-Anterselva (Italy). Following this, the European Championship will take place in Slovakia (January 24 – 28). It is already known that Yulia Dzhima will skip it for the sake of focused preparation for the 2024 World Cup, which the Czech Republic will host in February.
