Honorary Vice President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Vadim Melikhov explained the rules that athletes must follow when completing a team race.
On Friday, team races will take place at the Russian Championship in Tchaikovsky.
— The last time we organized a team race was at national competitions during the Beijing Olympics. Why is it interesting?
— Team races are one of the most interesting types of the program. Previously, she was still in the World Championships program, but then she was excluded. We discussed this subject at length with the IBU (International Biathlon Union), this was around 1998. But then they launched a lawsuit. If we take all the statistics, then in the team races it was mainly us, the Norwegians and sometimes the Germans who won.
— Could you explain the essence of the team race?
— Four people start at the same time. They arrive at the line within 15 seconds, shoot in pairs from a prone position, the second pair goes to the waiting area. For each failure, the entire team is sent into a 150-yard penalty loop. There are two lines of fire, the second is fired standing. Everyone also arrives at the finish line together: the gap must not exceed 15 seconds. Helping each other is allowed. Separate start, gap per minute. So it will be very tight. The thing is very interesting,” reports the correspondent of , according to Melikhov’s words.
