Norwegian Olympic biathlon champion Vetle-Sjastad Christiansen admitted to taking medications on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) banned list.
The athlete said he used a banned drug to recover from an illness before the start of the first World Cup stage in Östersund this season.
— I was taking something called prednisolone (steroidal anti-inflammatory drug – approx.). It is on the anti-doping list and cannot be used during competition. When using drugs on the prohibited list, you need to be careful. “I have never taken antibiotics before, but this year I took two courses,” Christiansen said, as quoted by NRK.
On Saturday, Christiansen won the sprint race on the fifth stage of the KM in Ruhpolding. He had already been excluded from the Norwegian team during the World Cup in Oberhof.
