Maxim Maximov believes that young biathletes do not understand the essence of team races

Coach of the Russian national team Maxim Maximov told that young biathletes do not understand the essence of the team race, even if it is held in an interesting format.

On Friday, at the Alfa-Bank Russian Championship in Tchaikovsky, the team from the Sverdlovsk region won the team race among women, while the Belarusians took first place among men. According to the rules, four people from the same team start at the same time. At the lines, two biathletes are shooting and the others are in the waiting area. For each failure, two athletes are sent into a penalty loop. When passing the course and at the finish, the gap between the first and last teammate cannot exceed 15 seconds.

— I used to race in team races, it was interesting. There was one instance where I ran faster as a team than my own sprint. I was a junior then and met masters such as Andrei Padin, Vladimir Bektuganov. These people were already part of the national team at the time.

The format is interesting, but the young people currently running don’t understand the essence of the race. This is a race of only one athlete – the one who “drops” at the finish line. He is the one who runs the finishing circle. Many leaders do not get tired of such races, and those who are weaker feel all the difficulties,” Maksimov told .

On January 14, at the Russian Championships in Tchaikovsky, there will be large mass starts for women and men.
