Medalist at the Biathlon World Championships Nikita Porshnev told that he believes the best regarding a trip to the Olympics in 2026, but if that doesn’t happen then he is prepared to compete in alternative tournaments.
On December 1, Porshnev took the last place in the sprint of the second stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk. After the race, the 27-year-old biathlete told that he had decided to end his professional career. Later it became known that the athlete would return to competition after a short break. In January he went to the start of the Russian Championship races in Tchaikovsky.
“Everyone is waiting for me to start succeeding. » I wait and do everything myself. If you want to go with the flow, then at least row (Laughs).
– Now, to what age would you like to row?
— The Olympics are probably a big goal, but these are my thoughts, which I don’t want to get in the way of. The primary objective is 2026! But I don’t draw hasty conclusions: I train, I work. The main thing is to be healthy. If that happens, I’ll run and then we’ll see.
— The Olympic Games are now a vague prospect for the Russians. Not scary?
– I believe in the best. My job is to train, it’s not me who decides whether we will be allowed in or not. I am sure that our state will not leave us with nothing. If we can’t play, there will be alternative games anyway that will be held on an equal footing with the Olympics. I repeat that we train and we do our job, and whatever happens. I have no right to judge anything, because nothing depends on me. I am like a soldier: if they tell me to go, then we will go, otherwise it is our fate. If there are alternative starts, they will be no less interesting for athletes,” Porshnev told .
