SBR explained why it refused to organize a sprint as part of the prologue of the Kyrgyz Republic stage in Izhevsk

The 100-meter race as part of the prologue could have taken place on Friday at the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup stage in Izhevsk, but the athletes asked not to hold it, said Alexander Pak, executive director of the Russian Biathlon Union (SBR). .

In the 2023/24 season, Russian biathletes perform in an experimental format – the prologue. These are preliminary competitions organized by the SBR before the main program of competitions of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup, Championship and Cup of Russia. The biathletes compete in four teams. At each individual stage, the winners of the competition receive 50, 40 and 30 thousand rubles and points for ranking, respectively. The winning team will receive one million rubles at the end of the season.

“We planned to hold shooting duels on Wednesday and sprints on Friday, but the athletes asked not to do the 100-meter race, because the individual race is quite difficult and the main program continues on Saturday. We organize this event with the athletes, so we take their wishes into account.

— Why didn’t they do prologues in Minsk and Tchaikovsky?

— We didn’t plan this in Raubichi, because it’s a bit strange to organize a prologue when Belarusian athletes are not participating. And there were frosts in Tchaikovsky,” reports the correspondent, according to Pak’s words.

On Thursday there will be a prologue for dueling shooting.

The fourth stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Izhevsk will take place from January 18 to 21. Watch live broadcasts of individual races on Thursday on the channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.
