Biathlete Dmitry Ivanov told that he would not mind running a hundred meters as part of the prologue of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup stage in Izhevsk.
Ivanov took fourth place Wednesday in the prologue of the dueling shooting format. The biathlete also became fourth in the 100 meters at the Khanty-Mansiysk stage in November. Earlier, SBR Executive Director Alexander Pak said that the sprints as part of the prologue could have taken place on Friday, but the athletes abandoned this idea.
— Does biathlon need such shows?
– Certainly. A change of format, a change of environment, it’s good for an athlete. But we still work hard like in a competition, because we want to win.
— Which is more interesting: a prologue in the form of a sprint or a shooting duel?
— Edik (Latypov) took me to the team as a universal athlete. I can accelerate to 100 yards and shoot well here. I can do both.
— On Friday, sprints could have taken place here, but this idea was abandoned. Do you want them to succeed?
— I think that on the rest day it was possible to do a sprint, that’s nothing special. In Khanty we ran – it was normal. The only negative in Khanty was that we were late. If you do it at five in the evening, it’s normal, later it’s difficult. Still, the adrenaline is released, and before bed it’s not very good.
— After Hunt, were there any consequences of the sprint?
– No. It was interesting to participate in this format,” Ivanov told .
In the 2023/24 season, Russian biathletes perform in an experimental format – the prologue. These are preliminary competitions organized by the SBR before the main program of competitions of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup, Championship and Cup of Russia. The biathletes compete in four teams. At each individual stage, the winners of the competition receive 50, 40 and 30 thousand rubles and points for ranking, respectively. The winning team will receive one million rubles at the end of the season.
On Thursday, at the Russian Cup stadium in Izhevsk, individual races will take place. Watch the live broadcast of the men’s start from 9:35 Moscow time on the channel, and the women’s start from 12:35. Also follow the progress of the races on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru sites.
