Olympic silver medalist in biathlon Irina Kazakevich On she spoke about training in Izhevsk in strong wind conditions.
From January 18 to 21, the fourth stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Biathlon Cup will take place in Izhevsk.
-What was all that? Is it a madhouse in terms of weather?
– Let’s start with the fact that it is certainly warmer now than in the previous two months when we were competing. The hardest part was probably the shooting for the coaches, because they couldn’t see anything through the tube when we were shooting at the targets. And most of the athletes were already shooting according to the settings.
Then the snow thinned out a little and it became at least more or less visible. The only obstacle is the wind, but I think for us it’s good training so to speak.
— In this weather, was there any point in training, when the cartridges exploded, etc.?
– I will say that the cartridges were not taken away much. At least the cartridge held up well for me. It wasn’t like the shots were coming from different directions. Naturally, it is difficult to film standing up in such conditions. Lying down, just aim, and in fact the wind has not changed direction, maybe only the strength of the wind has changed a little.
But generally speaking, I think such training is necessary anyway, because anything can happen during competitions. There were races in Tchaikovsky when it was windy. It’s not that bad, but you still need to undergo such training.
— Have you ever had a situation such that you came to competitions and said: “When will the weather be normal?”
— To be honest, I arrive at every step like this (Laughs).
— How prepared are you personally for the individual race?
– I hope I will be in a little better shape than I am this season. But we’ll see how this race goes. However, it is the filming that will decide. I love Izhevsk, I love the track here. The weather will not be as harsh on Thursday. Also, this season there are a lot of individual races, about four. And the general classification of the individual races will be decided. And this race is one of my favorites,” Kazakevich said on .
