Biathlete Porshnev: “I dedicate the Russian Cup medal to my family and my coach: this result is their achievement, not mine”

Russian biathlete Nikita Porshnev told that he dedicates the silver medal won in the individual race at the fourth stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Izhevsk to his family and his first coach, who supported him in the the most difficult life situations.

Porshnev took second place on Thursday, 1.6 seconds behind winner Dmitry Lazovsky of Belarus.

— Have you thought about bypassing Lazovsky?

– Honestly, I thought I could. I felt like I had the strength to fight. I tried to work until the last meter of the distance and not collapse. Dima is a great guy, he kept his speed. The coaches guided me on the last lap and gave me support. I’ve already done everything I could, but apparently I failed somewhere. But I’m happy with my second place because I missed a lot this season. Now that he has shown a good result in his moves, it will only get better.

— You probably dedicate your medal to someone.

— For me, traditionally: to my family and my first personal trainer. I am grateful to them for the work they have done for me throughout my life. All these results are not my achievements, they are the achievements of these people. And I am simply implementing their work. I am very happy that they supported me at such a time in my life. My result here is thanks to them,” Porshnev told .

On December 1, Porshnev took 106th place in the sprint of the second stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk. After the race, the 27-year-old biathlete, who was not part of the Russian national team, told that he had decided to end his professional career. Later, the SBR press service announced that Porshnev would return to competition after a “short break”. The athlete returned to performance in January.
