Dinara Smolskaya announced when she would return to biathlon after the birth of her child

Olympic champion Dinara Smolskaya told that she will officially return to biathlon at the end of February, where she will take part in the Russian Cup stage, and before that she will take part in the Legkov race.

Smolskaya became a mother on September 28 last year and is married to Belarusian national team biathlete Anton Smolsky. The “Legkov Race”, organized by Olympic cross-country ski champion Alexander Legkov, will take place on February 23 and 24 in the Moscow region. The stage of the Russian Biathlon Cup in Ufa will take place from February 29 to March 3.

— Are you traveling to the stages of the Russian Cup to be closer to your husband or because you want to play?

— Of course, I want to go to the starting line, but unfortunately, I don’t have access to official competitions yet. And very little time has passed since the birth of my son, so my husband takes care of my health so that I don’t have a crazy idea to start (laughs). In fact, I don’t just take part in the stages of the Russian Cup, I train, I conduct two training sessions a day. It’s more practical with my husband, because we don’t have to be at a distance, we don’t have to be on the phone. We go to training together, he controls my technique, my intensity. When we are together, it is easier for us.

— It was reported that you want to perform in Minsk in January. How did they dissuade you?

– That was the idea. My husband talked me out of it in December by buying me a trip to the seaside. He said he would delay my departure a little. I realized that it was time to rest and restart, so it shouldn’t be missed. I rested and warmed up. I realized that I would not have time to prepare well (for the Minsk stage), and that it would only be an acceleration of the preparation.

— Can we see you on track before the end of the season?

— Yes, I plan to start with the Legkov race, where Alexander invited Anton and me. Then I will come to the Russian Cup in Ufa, where I will take part in one of the races. At the Russian Championship, I will try to be in full combat preparation.

— Is your current physical condition close to what it was before the birth of the child?

“Yes, I do all the loading, I feel my speed well and I don’t have any problems,” Smolskaya told .

Dinara Smolskaya, who previously competed under the name Alimbekova, won gold at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang as part of the Belarusian relay team.
