The result of Yaroslav Lavrenyuk was historic for our team at the Winter Games.
Ukraine won the second medal at the IV Winter Youth Olympic Games 2024, which is being held in Gangwon, South Korea.
This time the award was silver. It won the skeleton competition of 16-year-old Ukrainian athlete Yaroslav Lavrenyuk.
Let’s remember that our athlete, following the results of the first race, appeared for the third time – 52.89 seconds, only 0.04 seconds behind the South Korean Yongsu Shin, who was then in second place. However, already in the last race, Lavrenyuk improved his result by 0.11 seconds and was ahead of the host of the competition with a mark of 52.78 seconds, losing only to the Latvian Emils Indrikson.
Another Ukrainian, Vladislav Klimenko, took 20th place in the skeleton competition.
1. Emils Indrikson (Latvia) 1:44.66
3. Yongsu Shin (South Korea) +1.39
…

Let’s remember that the result of the skeletonist Lavrenyuk was historic – for the first time Ukraine was able to win more than one medal at the Winter Youth Games. The Ukrainians have completed the past three Olympics with just one medal to their name.
Previously, the Ukrainian biathlete became a bronze medalist at the 2024 Youth Olympics.
