Biathlete Daria Virolainen was included in the Finnish national team for the next World Championships, which will take place in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic), reports the press service of the National Biathlon Federation.
The competition will take place from February 7 to 18. The Finnish women’s team also included Venla Lehtonen, Noora Kaisa Keränen, Sonja Leinamo and Suvi Minkkinen.
This season, 34-year-old Virolainen is playing for the Finnish team at the World Cup stages. She showed her best result in Hochfilzen, Austria, where she finished 35th in the sprint. The athlete has lived with her family in Finland since 2016, but at that time she played for the Russian national team and, as a member of the team, won gold at the 2017 European Championship in singles doubles mixed.
Virolainen is the eldest daughter of three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova, who died in October 2023.
