The executive committee of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) decided to perpetuate the memory of the three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova and establish a trophy in his name, according to the organization’s website.
The famous biathlete and skier died on October 19 at the age of 58.
— The Anfisa Reztsova Cup, like the former Alexandre Privalov Cup, will be contested each year as part of the Russian championships. It will be awarded to the winners of the men’s and women’s sprint races. Likewise, in the last three seasons of the Russian Championship, the Alexander Privalov Cup was awarded for individual victories among men and women,” the statement said.
Anfisa Reztsova won gold and silver in cross-country skiing at the 1988 Olympics and also won three world championships. In biathlon, the athlete won gold at the 1992 (sprint) and 1994 (relay) Games, and also became a silver medalist at the world championships.
