President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) Viktor Maygurov told that the decision to perpetuate the memory of the three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova was accepted without doubt by the executive committee of the organization.
Previously, the RBU executive committee decided to create a trophy named in honor of Anfisa Reztsova. The famous biathlete and skier died on October 19 at the age of 58.
— Today a new trophy appeared in the SBR award system: the Anfisa Reztsova Cup. The members of the executive committee were convinced that it was necessary to perpetuate the memory of the first Olympic biathlon champion in history. Anfisa Reztsova won this first gold medal in women’s biathlon in the sprint, so we decided to present a cup named after her in this discipline for her victory at the Russian Championship.
The Reztsova Cup will be awarded to both men and women – in the same way as for three seasons we have been playing for victory in the individual race, the Alexander Privalov Cup, at the national championship. These two trophies are awarded for victory in a specific discipline, not in the men’s or women’s competition,” Maigurov told .
Anfisa Reztsova won gold and silver in cross-country skiing at the 1988 Olympics and also won three world championships. In biathlon, the athlete won gold at the 1992 (sprint) and 1994 (relay) Games, and also became a silver medalist at the world championships.
