“Hope is shining, but I’m not sure we will go to the 2026 Olympic Games” – President of the Russian Luge Federation

President of the Russian Luge Federation Natalia Garth said she has no illusions about Russian athletes’ journey to the 2026 Olympics.

Most Russian athletes stopped participating in international competitions from February 2024. The next Winter Olympics will take place in Milan in February 2026.

— Milan 2026 Olympic Games: is participation possible?

— I was following the situation with Kamila Valieva. I am truly sorry for such a harsh four-year suspension. It’s a shame that our team (at the 2022 Olympics in the team competitions) was demoted to bronze. Even before this situation, I had no illusions that now everything would suddenly change and we would be allowed to participate in the 2026 Olympics. Of course, there is hope. I am optimistic. But I’m not sure we’ll go there,” correspondent Garth said.

On Monday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended figure skater Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The disqualification period begins on December 25, 2021. The ISU later announced that all of the athlete’s results from the date of sample collection had been canceled. This also led to a review of the results of the 2022 Olympics team tournament, where the Russian team won. First place is now awarded to the American team, the Japanese are second and the Russians will receive bronze.
