Repilov, three-time world champion, said he was ready to become a sled engineer

Luger triple world champion Romain Repilov said he was ready to become an engineer to create sleds for Russian athletes, but noted that this process required a lot of time and energy.

At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Repilov became ninth in the single-seater luge competition and took fourth place in the Russian team in the relay.

— We started actively working on sleds last year. The Olympics showed that this had to be done. You won’t get far without it. We strive for perfection in this regard. I follow international competitions. Looking at them, you have to do a lot of things and experiment.

This year we worked a lot on the sleds. The work showed strengths and weaknesses – we tried the new sled geometry that the Germans and Austrians have. We are now trying to extract the speed demonstrated by the Europeans. Everything is not working yet. If there was the possibility of riding on different routes, it would be more objective. Unfortunately we only have one route.

On the positive side, we had some very nice runners, who I will check in March in order to properly analyze the off-season information and draw the right conclusions in the future. I’m building a sled. Sometimes I love it even more than acting. It’s an exciting new stage in life.

Do I see myself as a sled engineer in the future? These will not be sleds specifically from Roman Repilov, but simply sleds made in Russia so that we can be proud of them. I would really like to do that. I have a lot of energy in this direction, but I don’t always have enough time. You have to communicate a lot, work, read, test. Everything you have in mind doesn’t come true as it should. In the future, I will be happy to engage not only in the production of sleds, but also in the popularization of our sport in the country, ”reports the correspondent of , according to Repilov’s words.
