President of the Russian Luge Federation Natalia Garth spoke about the difficulties associated with inviting foreign athletes to Russian competitions.
The International Luge Federation (FIL) had previously suspended Russians from competitions under its auspices due to the situation in Ukraine.
— Is it possible to invite foreign athletes to our competitions?
— We are not very lucky in this regard, because there is no sledding in Belarus. But now we were at the sports forum in Perm and met with representatives of the sports community of Belarus. We are now planning a business visit to them. They were on our track in Chusovoy, they were enthusiastic about the creation of luge sports in Belarus. But it’s a long-term game: sledding won’t be born there in six months.
We have good relations with Georgia. They came to our training camp in Sochi. But we understand that such close friendship with one of the national federations could harm them. We do not yet know with whom we can establish close cooperation.
There are no such strong athletes in Kazakhstan. All the strong nations are the Austrians, Germans, Italians and Latvians. We understand that these nations will not compete with us now. Therefore, we have a problem in this regard – we are on our own at the moment,” said correspondent Garth.
