Head coach of the Russian luge team Sergei Chudinov said that if Russian athletes were allowed to compete internationally, they would “tear everyone apart.”
Russian lugers have been suspended from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
“We accomplished everything we planned at the preparation stage. The competition began in November. There are no conceptual changes, the leaders of the national team are the same. We are skating within a few tenths of the course record, the level of preparation is quite high. If we had the right to participate in international competitions, everyone would be torn to shreds, the motivation is off the charts.
The idea of Spartakiad had been in the air for a long time, thank God it came true. I think it will be a very good platform to unite not only Russian athletes, but also athletes from friendly countries. Let’s show a good fight, fast races. I hope that in the future we will unite with our friendly colleagues and organize joint competitions within the framework of the Spartakiad,” the correspondent reports, reporting Chudinov’s words.
The Winter Spartakiad of the Strongest will be held in several regions of Russia from February 9 to 18.
