Dmitry Malyshko: “It’s not every day I remember the relay race at the Sochi Olympics”

Dmitry Malychko said it’s not every day he remembers the biathlon relay at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

The Russian team, consisting of Malyshko, Alexei Volkov, Evgeniy Ustyugov and Anton Shipulin, won relay gold at the home Olympics. Their result could be overturned if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejects the appeal in Ustyugov’s case for using a banned substance.

“I’m happy to see guys from other sports with whom we fought for the overall victory ten years ago. None of them changed, everything happened like a day. I will be happy to pass on my experience and my emotions to our younger generation. The guys came here loaded and are just starting their sporting journey. And I think they will succeed, especially in places like Sochi, where there are excellent sports facilities.

Unfortunately, for an athlete, the Olympic Games are a long and painstaking job. I would like to be on the other side of the TV, in the stands, cheering everyone together. But I hope we gave the fans a holiday. And for us, it was a big responsibility. And when the medals appeared, they expired a lot.

How often do we remember this relay race? Well, certainly not every day. I communicate well with Anton Shipulin. We hadn’t come across Alexei Volkov for a long time and finally managed to meet here. I keep in touch with some skiers who also competed in Sochi in 2014. But, as I already said, today I was happy to see everyone and support this good event,” Malyshko said according to RT .
