President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Gulyaev believes that many leaders of the Russian short track team would be serious competitors at the international level.
Given the situation in Ukraine, Russian short track skaters have been suspended from participating in international competitions.
— Competition in short track speed skating has been strong recently. All of our strongest athletes are capable of competing at the international level. If a miracle happened, and we would like it to happen sooner and we are allowed to participate in international competitions, many of our athletes would end up in the A final,” Gulyaev told reporters at the opening of the competition short track as part of the Spartakiad of the Strongest.
— The Spartakiad of the Strongest is the main start for all athletes. For the first time, we can combine short track and speed skating competitions in one arena, and I am confident that our colleagues from Chelyabinsk will lead everything at the highest level,” he added.
