Medalist at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships Ekaterina Aldoshkina told that it was not easy for her to transition to short track speed skating after an intense start to the speed skating season.
Aldoshkina will compete in her Spartakiad of the Strongest in Chelyabinsk in short track speed skating and speed skating. On the first day of the competition, she became first in the 1,500 m.
— It would be more difficult if there was skating first and then short track. Short track competitions are mentally more difficult – you have to run several times and worry before each start. Sometimes there is not enough rest – you have to sharpen your skates yourself, hang out, warm up. In speed skating, everything goes more smoothly, especially since I run long distances – I have time to think and prepare. There is quite a long pause between the ringtones, it was a surprise for me. In short track speed skating, you need to max out before each race, and there are up to five such races per day.
— At the start of the season, you competed in speed skating. Did you think anything might go wrong in short track racing after that?
– There was, of course. When I first put on short track skates upon arrival in Chelyabinsk, I couldn’t even do the usual cross step. I started to worry – maybe I had made a mistake, maybe I should have gotten up and ridden a few more times in October-November-December so that the sensations did not go away. The difference between the boots is very big and the most unpleasant thing is when the bones start to hurt. You have the impression that they are not your shoes, but new casts, not very comfortable.
—Who was in the stands with banners in your favor?
– My family! Today there was a sister, a mother, distant relatives, a grandmother, a dear aunt… They had already come to cheer on the Russian Speed Skating Cup, and in short track speed skating , it was their first major competition.
— You posted videos on social media between races. How do you manage all this?
— Since I took on the responsibility of publishing some updates on what was happening here from the inside, I found the time to film it and publish it quickly. My hand is full and it doesn’t distract me,” Aldoshkina told .
