— What is the importance of the Sochi Olympic Games for you? Is the bronze medal at these games the greatest reward of your career?
— Of course, the Olympic medal is the highest achievement of my career. Naturally, the home Olympics in Sochi were a higher priority and more important for me than the previous ones.
— You have had four Olympic Games in your career, the first place was in Vancouver – tenth. Before the Olympic Games in Sochi, was there any special preparation to show your best in front of the Russian fans?
— We prepared for Sochi much more seriously than for any other Olympic Games. We have more coaches and specialists in the team. We trained harder and harder.
— Before the tournament, were you confident in your ability to perform well and win a medal? Or was the result unexpected, including for you?
— I didn’t have the feeling that there would definitely be a medal in Sochi. I had bets on people who applied for this place, I assessed my level well. On the day of departure, I already had a feeling of inner confidence that everything would work out.
— Was Sochi the most emotional Olympic Games for you?
— A medal always gives incredible emotions and sensations. Of course, these were the most emotional Olympic Games.
— How did you feel when you won a medal?
— It all happened in one day, when competitions, doping controls and press areas were taking place. The next day, when I was presented with the medals, I already felt like I had won an Olympic medal. Of course, I was happy that all the work done was not in vain,” Smyshlyaev told .
