Double Olympic champion Svetlana Ichmouratova told that even at the Turin Games she did not feel the same emotions as during the opening of the Zlatoust stadium, which bears her name.
The Svetlana Ishmuratov Stadium opened its doors on Saturday in Zlatoust, where the Spartakiad biathlon tournament is taking place.
— When the stadium opened, you cried, right?
— Yes, during the opening ceremony of the stadium, I couldn’t hold back and I cried.
— Are these emotions comparable to those you felt winning gold at the Olympics?
— No, I didn’t cry at the Olympic Games. The fact that the stadium bears my name is of course nice, but here the joy is not for itself. I am happy for our entire city: we have opened up opportunities for children, and the attitude of regional leaders towards the city has also changed for the better.
— The complex has been under construction since 2008: when did you lose hope and when did you find it again?
“I lost hope, then I found it again.” Two years ago, when Alexei Leonidovich (Texler) and I approached this topic, there was practically no hope. Yes, he promised they would. “Well, well, do it,” I thought. And to be honest, I’m now in a kind of euphoria, because I don’t believe it’s possible. You just have to survive this moment, like in the Olympic Games, because here too you don’t immediately understand what happened.
— How often will you be involved here?
— Probably as an advisor, because after all, there is a main place of work, from which they reluctantly let me go. I always love coming here where I meet great people. Next to me is Yuri Nikolaevich Ushakov, director of the Ishmuratova School. He stays there, embarrassed to approach, but he has to! — Ishmuratova told .
— How many talented guys do we have every year in Zlatoust? Of course, they need to be supported,” Ushakov added.
The biathlon tournament at Spartakiad will last until February 18.
On Tuesday January 13, individual races will take place at the Spartakiade. Watch the live broadcast of the women’s race from 08:35 (Moscow time), the men’s race from 12:05 on the channels “”, “Match! Arena” and “Match! Planet”, as well as the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
