In today’s pursuit race, both Ukrainians finished in the top 25, and Dudchenko completed the course without mistakes
Head coach Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Juraj Sanitra commented on the performance of his charges in the pursuit race at World Championship 2024 in Czech Nove Mesto.
In particular, the mentor noted Anton Dudchenko, who managed to avoid mistakes along the distance and win back 14 positions during the race, ultimately taking 25th place.
“Anton [Дудченко] He prepared a small gift for me: under such conditions, shooting “zero” is something you need to know. Anton did a great job with shooting. 14 positions? [Неплохо]“, I also liked how I ran on the track in these conditions: I lost less with my legs than at a shorter distance.”
“This is already confidence in shooting. While shooting I saw that Anton was concentrated. Did well. We took advantage of this position a little: the wind at the first to fifth settings is a little weaker than further down. I think Anton made me happy. There is a desire for it to continue like this. We need him for the relay.”
Sanitra also explained why Dmitry Pidruchny made two mistakes at the last turn, which is why he dropped from 17th position to the final 23rd position.
“Under these conditions, before the fourth lap he starts having problems with his back – he has to push off hard. It’s not a physical problem, it’s just that my back doesn’t allow me to stay in contact. And this affected the last shooting, plus the wind from behind – that’s two misses.”
“This track is not suitable for him, it is difficult. You need to hold your back very tightly. I can’t say that [у Пидручного] injury. The muscles become very stiff, then the back begins to limit movement. We are working [но] We haven’t found a method to remove this yet.”
Let us remind you that only two Ukrainian biathletes took part in the pursuit at the 2024 World Cup. Earlier it became known that Artem Prima would miss this race – according to Sanitra, this decision was made solely for strategic purposes.
The World Championships continue on Tuesday, February 13, with the women’s 15-kilometer individual race. The next day, February 14, the 20-kilometer individual race for men will take place.
