“The passion for helicopters was Malinowski’s passion. Probably, Igor understood what risks she was running. -Babikov

russian biathlete Anton Babikov in a conversation with , he expressed his condolences on the death of Igor Malinovsky, noting that helicopters were the passion of the ex-biathlete and, probably, he was aware of the risk associated with them .

On Monday, Babikov took part in an open training session of Sergei Bashkirov’s group in Toksovo (Leningrad region), which was attended by at least a hundred spectators. In his opinion, such an activity was useful for athletes.

– How do you find such an unusual summer training with the public?

“That, of course, is a big plus for us. In principle, there were no fans even at international competitions for a long time. And there are so many people in training. Seems to me the young guys could see how nervous they were. And for us it’s even more nostalgia. But it’s still a great benefit for all of us and a pleasure for the fans. We rarely have such conditions.

– Coach Sergey Bashkirov designed this story to add adrenaline to you.

– He was definitely injected into us today (smile). It seems to me that this was evident in the number of shooting penalties.

– How is the atmosphere before the season without international departures?

– When you enter the training process, all superfluous thoughts are swept away. You are simply preparing to be stronger every day, to find new opportunities for growth. So now everyone is focused on work. And where we will implement all this experience and work, time will tell. It’s not up to us, but we all love our jobs. And we do it every day.

– It turns out that now you just need to live and work in the moment?

– Sure.

– I can not help but ask about the death of Igor Malinovsky, from which, there is a feeling, everyone in biathlon is in shock.

Everyone is in shock. It’s very sad. At the same time, I would like to express words of support and condolences not only to Igor’s relatives, but also to the families of the people who were in that helicopter. It is a terrible disaster in which several people died. Not everything fits in my head – it’s a pity. You know, when we were in Oslo at the first stage of the World Cup for Igor, of course he communicated with foreign colleagues. And then they told me: a young man arrived there, who, after introducing himself and saying that he was from the Russian national team, started talking about helicopters. I mean, it was his passion. Probably, Igor understood the risks involved. However, his death is very sad. Courage to all the families of the victims! Babikov said.

After finishing his sports career, Malinovsky became a pilot and worked in Kamchatka. The five-time junior world champion died on July 16 in the crash of the helicopter he was piloting. The next day, the vehicle was found burnt out by Kamchatka rescuers. The Russian Emergencies Ministry confirmed that none of the passengers survived. Malinovsky was 25 years old.
