“We want to organize one of the Russian short track championships next season in Chelyabinsk” – Gulyaev

President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Guliaev told that one of the Russian championships next season should be held in Chelyabinsk.

Next season it is planned to hold the Russian short track championship in individual and all-around distances. On Monday, the short track speed skating competition as part of the Spartakiad of the Strongest ended at the Ural Lightning in Chelyabinsk. Ekaterina Aldoshkina and Vladimir Balbekov won three gold medals each.

— Overall, it was the right decision that we were not afraid to combine and hold Spartakiad-style short track and speed skating competitions in one arena. The level of short track competitions in Chelyabinsk gave rise to the idea that we could organize the Russian Championship in this area.

So next year we will hold one of the national championships in Chelyabinsk. I would also like to note the interesting fight and the intensity of passions at distances. There were dramatic moments, notably in the women’s 500m final, but sport remains sport and the rules are the same for everyone.

I would like to congratulate Vladimir Balbekov and Ekaterina Aldoshkina for their very successful performance, but I hope that is not all. Ekaterina will also compete in speed skating, where, I hope, she will also compete for medals of the highest value. It will be a factor of inspiration for growing athletes, but also for existing ones,” Gulyaev told .

The Winter Spartakiad of the Strongest takes place from February 8 to 18. Competitions in 16 sports are held in the Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk Territories, as well as in the Tyumen, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions. Russian and Belarusian athletes took part in the Spartakiad of the Strongest.
