President of the Biathlon Federation of the Leningrad Region, four-time world champion Vladimir Drachev commented on the victory Evgenia Sidorova in the individual race for the Spartakiad of the Strongest.
Sidorov won the 20km race in Zlatoust, avoiding mistakes on four shooting ranges.
– It’s time to win. Functionally, he has always been a strong guy, but the main thing for him has always been work at the shooting range and the ability to stop, to work competently and clearly on the line. This year we have a good tandem with the Krasnoyarsk Territory. We did a good job and Krasnoyarsk helped us a lot. The change in shooting technique paid off. He knew how to shoot, but as he approached, he was confused because he was worried. For this reason, he had one-minute stops and uncertainty in the rhythm.
We can say with confidence that the man has become a real biathlete. I think he can still grow in the national team, he has crazy potential. In 2018, I said he was one of the most promising athletes in terms of running ability. We looked at many different athletes, but Zhenya had even higher functional potential than Alexander Loginov and Eduard Latypov. I’m not even talking about the rest. The ability to combine two sports was difficult for him. 26 years old is the age of growth and development for him. He gained strength, energy and experience. Some people get it at the age of 21, while others don’t get it at all,” Drachev said, as quoted by Metaratings.ru.
The Winter Spartakiad of the Strongest takes place from February 8 to 18. Competitions in 16 sports are held in the Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk Territories, as well as in the Tyumen, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions. Russian and Belarusian athletes took part in the Spartakiad of the Strongest.
