On February 13, 2014, Garanichev became a bronze medalist at the Sochi Olympics in the individual race. On Tuesday, the biathlete, who turned 36 that day, took 12th place in the individual event of the Spartakiad of the Strongest in Zlatoust with a penalty.

— What is the secret of its longevity?

— In his determination and motivation. This is a huge plus for young athletes from the Tyumen region who can admire him. He constantly demonstrates precise and very fast shooting. He is one of the few stable biathlon athletes in Russia.

— How do you remember Garanichev 10 years ago? Did you believe he could win a personal medal?

“He was not the favorite, but the Olympic Games and all the big starts of the season always bring surprises. I can’t say Garanichev’s bronze medal was a surprise, but he has always been a good runner. Perhaps the focus then was on the leaders rather than on him, and that was to his advantage. He did his job and won his medal.

— At what age do you think it will occur?

“You can’t get inside his head.” As long as the team needs him, as long as he has the desire, he will play,” Maigurov told .
