Head coach of the Slovenian national biathlon team Ricco Gross wished the family and friends of the late world champion in juniors Igor Malinovsky strength and patience in difficult times.
Malinovsky, having completed his sports career, became a pilot and worked in his native Kamchatka. He was at the controls of a helicopter that took off on July 16 on the route Milkovo – Valley of Geysers – Caldera of the Uzon volcano. Later, the helicopter stopped communicating. On Sunday, the vehicle was found burnt down by Kamchatka rescuers. The Russian Emergencies Ministry confirmed that none of the passengers survived. Malinovsky was 25 years old.
“It’s always unpleasant to receive such messages… It’s terrible that this happened, it’s just incredible. A very great sporting talent has left us… My thoughts go out to his family, his loved ones , his friends, his fellow athletes… I wish everyone a lot of strength and patience in this difficult time,” Gross told .
The German specialist led the Russian men’s team from 2015 to 2018.
